Hindu dharma is so great that even a minute number can stimulate us to meditate upon the supreme Lord.Kamsa used to get agitated on hearing the sound of number eight. The number is so unique that its very sound would drive Kamsa to think about Lord Krishna. We hear the number eight on a regular day to day basis. What thoughts do they give rise in us? We would say that my shoe size is eight or the number of steps in my house would add up to number eight. Only we alone can recount how much of meditation has the number eight evoked in us. Inorder to stimulate such a meditative process in Kamsa's mind, Lord proclaimed that he would be born as the eighth child. The Lord could have very well said that he would be the sixth child and as well come down as the eight one. The Lord (as Vamana) asked for three steps of land and the form that he assumed while measuring did not match the one that he had when he made the request. The Lord despite his mayas assures Kamsa that he would be the eight child in order that Kamsa be blessed with the thought of the Lord and that he attain a good state. Vasudeva promises that he would not only give the eigth but would give Kamsa every child that Devaki would deliver. This is a very supreme sacrifice, a wonderful one which cant be even imagined and despite that Vasudeva promises Kamsa to give all of his new born children to him.

Bhagawan gives us the required amount of sleep whenever we feel tired. This is such a wonderful thing and however hard we try to resist we have to sleep at least for a shortwhile to recover back our body strength. We reject whatever bhagawan gives us and this is attributed to our ignorance alone. The ignorance lies in the fact that we have not understood what Bhagawan actually means. In ancient times God was called bhagawan for not without a reason. Bhagawan means the supreme personality who exhibits six virtues (gunas).

The ignorance comes from the fact that people don't understand the root meaning of the sanskrit term (Bhaga - means six) and take whatever a layman says to be actual facts. One of the gunas of the Lord that I personally admire is His ability to sacrifice and shower mercy upon all. Lord has been standing from time immemorial for the bhaktas who queue up in temples. All the so called bhaktas or people end up asking one or the other their personal wishes to be fulfilled. Has anyone ever asked, Oh Lord you have been standing for ages and does you leg hurt ? Do you feel the pain as a result of standing this long?

Whether one visits the temple or reads hymns or reads Bhagavadh Gita, the internal wish of all such memers to the Lord is to keep them happy and keep their immediate family members in a similar state. People make offerings (prasad) and has anyone ever thought that if it would be hot enough Bhagawan might be scalded by it? Even if nobody thinks about these the greatness of the Bhagawan lies in the fact that he has kept his subjects (the people on this planet) happy and protect them as well. What can equal this scracife and mercy that Lord has bestowed upon us? It is by His mercy alone that the sea is kept under control. Only very recently that the great seas have started showing signs of fierce activity due to the ignorance of the population on this earth. Lord is trying to warn by these signs that His presence is very much there. We can't even imagine the ferocious nature that He can display which we all can't withstand either.

The mercy of the Lord cant be easily described. People think that the word Bhagawan is of ancient vocabulary but the actual meaning is his six modes or gunas and the best among those gunas is his mercy.Whenever people wish they go and pour 4 litres of curd or 10 litres of milk on bhagawan. Will He not suffocate due to this? Lord has to bear all such activities and such is the weird nature of the people on this planet. In addition to these Lord has to consume what people have to offer. Despite all these people would crib that I did this and Bhagawan did not accept my offerings etc.

When we begin to think about these only that we realise the mercy of the Lord towards all living beings. So why should we fear the word Bhagawan? There is nothing to fear as He is full of mercy. I really develop a sense of pity for the people as I witness the ignorant activities of them. It is this precise reason that Bhagawan has created me and requested to reiterate and deliver the essence of Lord. It is only through His wishes and strength (and through nothing else) that I am able to dispel the ignorance inherent among humans.

Poojyashree Shree Amma
September 2006

It is fortunate to listen and be blessed to Guruji Amma
's Sathsangam through phone irrespective of one's domicile in any nook and corner of this universe and many more souls should yearn to enjoy this bliss! Since people are easily tempted to the uncivilized activities and are trapped in the web of movies, television programmes and some unpleasant magazines, more and more Sathsangams should be encouraged and attended to keep oneself engaged in the union of the Almighty, which is the only eternal truth. Just as hills are made of hard stones alone and its originality cannot be replaced, likewise Bhagawaan is the eternal truth and at a stage each one realizes this truth. Its no compulsion and even those who have disassociated will realize this truth. Such is the greatness of Bhakthi and Naamasankeerthana. Since, Naamasankeerthana is the Kali Yuga Dharma, there is no match to it. Radhekrishna!

2. Mahatmas - New Bhaktacharitras Each Month

India is the holy land with so many bhaktas (devotees). When we go through the Indian history, there must be a bhakta in every period. That is the greatness of this sacred land. Bhaktas are the role model for all the bonded souls. They enjoy their life in a perfect way. Bhaktas surrender themselves to the Lotus feet of Lord. By hearing or reading bhaktas' divine story, the bonded soul is enlightened to come out of the worldwide bondages.

Radhekrishna! Sincere chanting and listening to the great stories of devotees will surely give a peace of mind to everybody, even in this 21st century. So many people think that listening to the devotee's stories is a waste of time and there is no benefit at all. If somebody wants to realize the power of bagawan, first of all they must listen bhaktha charithram [stories of devotees]. There are so many advantages in listening to baktha charithram.

Bharath is a very special land and contained within it are sacred places and rivers. Devotees born in this sacred bharath ensure that they propagate bhakti in all corners of the country. This is the precise reason why the fragrance of bhakti can be felt all around our country.Thirumangai Azhwar was visiting all the sacred places around this country. Whilst on pilgrimage around the country he visited the sacred town of Srirangam.

"vimaanam praNavaakaaram vEdhaSrungam mahaadhbhutham
SrirangaSaayee bhagavaan praNavaarththa prakaasaka:"

The tower (gopuram) of Srirangam is very sacred and assumes the form of a OM (omkara). Bramanda purana proclaims the glories of the Lord of Srirangam, who is considered to the seed of all vedas. The town of Srirangam is very special and that it receives true bhaktas everyday. Between two sacred rivers Cauvery and Coleroon lies the sacred land of Srirangam and the Lord assumes a sleeping pose with Adishesha (the divine serpant) as his bed. Sri Rama himself has worshipped the lord of Srirangam who belongs to the Ikshvaku dynasty. Since Lord Rama himself worshipped Renganatha, the Lord is also known to be as Periya Perumal (the foremost among Lords).Lord Renganatha was responsible for halting Ramas ascend to the throne (pattaabhishekam) and was also the cause of his life spent in forest.Mahatmas have proclaimed that Lord Renganatha was the cause of Rama's birth in response to prayers of king Dasarath. Our ancestors proclaim that Lord Rama himself prayed to Lord Renganatha to halt His ascend to the throne. Lord Renganatha is capable of fulfilling the desires of the avatars of Lord and hence he is surely much capable of fulfilling the desires of the human beings in this planet. Thirumangai azhwar was spellbound by Lord Renganatha and his sleeping pose. Tondaradipodi (the dust of feet of Lord Renganathas bhaktas) azhwar describes the Lord as thus

Lord whose crown faces the West.
Lord whose feet extends towards the East.
Lord whose back faces the North.
Lord who faces Sri Lanka in the South.
I am mesmerized oh Lord, by your sleeping posture and your color that matches that of the ocean (deep blue).

Lord Rama on the day of his return to the throne gave away gifts to everyone. While doing so He gave Lord Renganatha as a gift to Vibheeshana (Ravana's brother). Vibheeshana azhwar started to proceed towards Sri Lanka from Ayodhya. While travelling with Vibheeshana, Lord Renganatha notices a piece of land between Cauvery and Coleroon. He is charmed by the beauty of the place and decides to stay there. Lord Renganatha induces tiredness to Vibheeshana who inturn keeps the Lord down. But when he tries to retrieve the Lord he is unable to do so. Lord Renganatha consoles Vibheeshana to not to repent as He (the Lord) is facing his (Vibheeshana's) country (Sri Lanka) and requests him to come and perform pooja as and when he likes. The sanctity of our Bharath bhoomi is such that even the foremost Lord is unable to part ways with it. When Thirumangai azhwar visits Srirangam he is joyous on seeing his majestic posture and enjoyed unlimited happiness. The human form is to enjoy and praise the Lord. Let us pray to Lord that He should always linger in our hearts and minds. In this Krishna Jeyanthi, let us all establish the form of the Lord (Krishna) in our hearts and minds and stay in eternal bliss.

Radhekrishna. (To be continued)

3. Krishnam Vande Jagadhgurum - Extracts From The Holy Bhagawath Geetha

Radhekrishna.Hinduism is an ancient religion. All the things that have been spoken in Hindu religion can be applied in practical life. Although in 21st century till everyone can apply this in his or her daily life. The aim of Hindu religion is to provide total happiness to everyone at all times (or any point of time). The essence of Hinduism is told in "Bhagawad Gita". In order to realize what is said in Bhagawad Gita it is a compulsory (must) to have an unconditional faith on Bhagawad Gita. So many people have benefited in their lives because of the (by reading) shlokas of Bhagawad Gita. In Bhagawad Gita, Bhagawan Shri Krishna has told the way to lead a happy life in such an easy way that even a normal layman can easily understand. The slokas are so simple that anyone can understand and use it practically.

Gurujiamma & Guruji - Krishnam Vande Jagathgurum

The victory of his bhakthas is the only thing that Bhagawan Shri Krishna desires. Lord Krishna pretends Himself as human being and merges with the people. In each and everyone Lord Krishna proves His own nature. But the human beings do not understand His activities and so they treat Him as a person. If we recognize Bhagawan then there is no doubt, we can certainly succeed in our life effortlessly. Lord Krishna wishes all the jeevathmaís happiness only. Lord Krishna wants His children to get real pleasure from Him. So Lord Krishna converses in various kind.

Bhagawan Shri Krishna takes divine avatars because of his unbound love and affection for His bhakthas. The only purpose of his avatars is that his bhakthas must rejoice and be happy. His bhakthas must win always in their life and at all times. All the efforts of his bhakthas must bear fruits. Even if Bhagwan Shri Krishna has to bear the pain, He is prepared to take it and He comes in the form of a human to stay with His bhakthas. Because of His incomparable love, He provided Bhagavath Geetha for the jeevathma and their gladness.

Arjuna inquired Lord Krishna about bhakthi. Arjuna was a blessed one. He just listened to the sweet and melodious accent of Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna said Bhagavath Geetha to the jeevathma through Arjuna. Arjuna asked Lord Krishna, which kind of Bhakthi is greater? Those who possessed of form and attributes, and those who adore as the supreme Reality. ( saguna and nirguna ) Lord Krishna answered his queries.

Yae thvakshara-manirthaesya-mavyaktham paryupasathae;
Sarvathra-machinthyanj cha kuudastha maalan thruvam
Sanniyamyaenthri-kraamam sarvathra samapuththaya:
Thae prapnuvanthi maamaeva sarvapuutha-hithae rathaa:

Bhagawan replies those however, who fully controlling all their senses and even-minded towards all, and devoted to the welfare of all, and always adore as their very self also come to Me. The one who is endowed with supreme faith, and ever united through meditation with Me, worship Me, with the mind centered on Me will come close to me easily. Whichever bhakthi one does will attain Me only. But the one who possessed the form would attain directly to me( that is saguna.) The one who unthinkable, general, durable, indescribable, eternal, permanent also come to me only. One cannot decide anything without the sense of organs. So if we think any kind of form of Lord Krishna in our mind it is very easy for us to meditate and to pray. It is not compulsory that every one should have the same form for meditation. So without the form of Krishna it is very difficult for us to meditate and to get even mind on Him. Radhe Krishna. Bhagawan Sri Krishna continued in other slokas also. We will go through those in forthcoming issues. Radhe Krishna!!

4. The Divine Songs - Dhivyaprabhandham

Naalaayira Dhivyaprabandham

"pinnitta sadaiyaanum piramanum inthiranum
thunnittup pukal ariya vaikuntha neeL vaasal,
min vatttach chudar aazhi vEnkadakkOn thaan umizhum
pon vattil pidiththu udanE pukap peRuvEn aavEnE.

{PerumaaL thirumozhi - 679/1000/4000}

Lord Shiva with His matted locks, Brahma and Devendra are standing, crowding each other to enter the broad and lengthy doorway of Thirumalai which is the Vakuntha on earth. They are crowding to get the divine darshan of Bhagawan Balaji who is holding the Sudarshan Chakra. The Sudarshan Chakra who is also known as Thiruvazhi Aazhwar is shining with lightning splendor in the divine hands of Bhagawan Balaji. Kulasekara Aazhwar said ,ĒI also want to go inside with them to have a glimpse of the Bhagawan Balaji, who is being served by His devotees who are holding a golden bowl to receive the divine nectar from His divine beautiful lips.

Thirumalai Tirupathi is a very special divine abode. Kulasekara Aazhwar believed firmly that the greatest thing on earth was to take birth for getting a chance to stay in the divine thirupathi. He celebrates saying that itís a great, special, good fortune if we get a birth as a bird or a fish in this divine place. In the third pasuram Kulasekara Aazhwar says that even if we get a human birth in this divine place its would be really worthwhile only if they would get a chance to offer service to the Bhagawan Balaji directly in His abode inside the temple.

Kulashekara Azhwaar

Always at any time if we say Thirumalai Tirupathi then the first thing that comes to the mind is the crowd. The crowd seen there is always uncountable and is continuously flowing like a river. Everyone have the belief that its only the human crowd which keeps on flowing to Tirupathi. But the real truth is that all the thirty three crores of Gods also mass together and visit Tirupathi. Among that crowd of Gods, Lord Brahma and His own creator Lord Shiva and Devendra are also present. Brahma is the son of Bhagawan Balaji. Lord Shiva is the son of Brahma. The devas and each and every other originator has been created by Lord Brahma.

Seven Hills of Tirupati

In this pasuram Lord Shiva is with matted locks and therefore Kulasekara Aahwar addresses Him as Pinnitta Chadaiyan. To obtain the darshan of Balaji, Brahma was standing initially in the line followed by Lord Shiva and then the dhevas. These three could not get into Vaikuntha and so they are trying to get into Bhooloka Vaikuntha. But inspite of trying they were unable to get into Bhooloka Vaikuntha. Each one of them loved Bhagawan Balaji with utmost devotion. Bhagawan Balaji is holding Sudarashan Chakra beautifully which is shining and lightning. Radhekrishna!

God Balaji is devouring betelnut everyday. Sanyasis and the people who have lost all interest in wordly pleasures have the opinion that the betel nut, chandhan, the silk clothes and the gold ornaments are giving distress to the jeevathmas. But the Bhakthas enjoy themselves to take and wear all those things because they observe as Godís nature in it and they treat as Godís gift. Whereas the people who live in the materialistic world are enjoying themselves and trying to get pleasure in that and so they have a special attachment to those things. So they have a chance to take renaissance again in this world. That is why the sanyasis and the undesirable people rejected to use this. At the same time, the bhagavath bhakthas who are in the superior family recognize the betel nut as gift of Bhagawan. Radhekrishna. (This paasuram continues in next issue.)

5. Spring Of Spiritual Showers - Experiences Of Bhaktas, Disciples Of Poojyashree Shree Amma, Our Gurujiamma

An experience of a disciple in his own words

divine eyes that guard us continuously

Poojyashree Shree Ammavin Thiruvadigalile Saranam

Many people say that we see miracles. But we devotees of Poojyashree Shree Amma live in miracles. Yes, that would be the right thing to say. Every second we are experiencing miracles. With the grace of Poojyashree Shree Amma it has been proved time and again that guru krupai is above everything else in this world.

This happened a few months back. I was working for a stock broking company at a senior position. My job profile was to develop all the branches across India. This was something new for me in my career as I have never been in this kind of a profile. The very first branch which I had to go for training was Pune. On the day before I had to leave for Pune, my boss came to me and told me that there was going to be a huge seminar in which we have decided to take part. Since the branch in Pune is not aware how to go about it, you handle the proceedings. He told me this thing at 8.00 pm in the night. And I had to leave at 7.30 in the morning. I felt very nervous and for a few minutes I went blank. Then I just prayed to Guruji Amma and left for home.

The next day I went to Pune. When I went over there I saw that the seminar we were going to take part was very huge and almost all our competitor firms had taken part in it. I called up Guruji Amma and Guruji Amma told me that donít think anything, just keep chanting and pray sincerely. Then I kept my mind blank and surrendered myself at the lotus feet of Guruji Amma. Suddenly I saw a brochure of my company which had an article of how to go about stall arrangements. I started asking for those materials in the brochure and then built the stall according to the brochure. Then I started getting lot of ideas in my mind for improvements which was very surprising since I have never even thought of building a stall in my life. And soon enough with Guruji Ammaís divine grace the stall was one of the best in the seminar. And as far as the business part is concerned I prayed that anyhow my expense for this stall must be recovered and for that I wanted at least 50 customers to visit my stall. But since there were 5-6 competitors it was very difficult. I started chanting and praying continuously.

In the evening at around 6.00, I started counting the number of leads I had got. I was shocked, stunned, and amazed. I had got 350 leads and the total amount of people who had come were 425. Almost everyone had visited our stall and then the most miraculous part occurred. At 8.00 there was an announcement from the organizers that we had received the 'Best Stall of the Seminar'.

Poojyashri Shri Amma

Radhekrishna. Who else in this world can make things so easy? No one. Absolutely no one other than Guruji Amma! Such is the power of Guruji Amma. The krupai and the love is incomparable. No words can ever express the krupai, love and power of Guruji Amma. Its indefinable, incomparable, unbelievable. The power of Guruji Ammaís voice is unimaginable. A Radhekrishna from Guruji Amma can do wonders inside us. The melody in Guruji Ammaís voice is so much full of love that we never feel the emptiness inside us which otherwise exists always. Guruji Ammaís advice is so perfect that if we just do only that much then we can win anything and everything in life. With the grace of Poojyashree Shree Amma and Mahan Brahmashree Shree Gopalavallidasan, my entire team experienced a great miracle. Radhekrishna!

6. Samarpanam

parithraanaaya sadhoonaam vinasaya cha dhushkrutham

dharma sansthapanarthaya sambhavami yuge yuge

Bhagawan takes avatar in each and every yuga mainly to safeguard the bhaktas and then to destroy the rakshasaas who trouble his bhaktas. So Bhagawan comes to this bhoomi from paramapadham just for the sake of his bhaktas. Hence we come to know that bhaktas are very important to the Lord. Whenever Bhagawan comes to rescue his bhaktas, the other fellow people also reap the benefits.........Our guruji amma gives high respect to all the bhaktas. Hence our Vedhanaadham's every issue will be dedicated to one bhakta. This issue we are dedicating to one of the greatest Hindu sage philosopher namely 'Madhvacharya'.

Lord Krishna Deity that belonged to Madhvacharya which is established in Udupi temple.

Sri Madhvacharya

The great soul who introduced the system of Pistapasuyagas (offerings made from flowers), in place of actual animal sacrifices in yajnas and imposed the rigorous observance of fasts on Ekadasi.
