Is anyone enjoying the simple pleasures of life? Then how will grief not come and grab you if life is spent like this? To lead a happy life , there is such a simple process of controlling the mind and doing namajapam (chanting of the name of the Lord). There is no need for any offerings like sandal or attend workshops to attain a blissful living because namajapam itself is the workshop. There were some many Mahathis (divine ladies) like Aandal, Meera who did bhakthi like Tulsi, to lead us in the rght path. Let us do namajapam as done by those mahathis. Lord, consort of Lakshmi, to shower His mercy on us has been standing for ages in temple after temples. Have we ever thought about this mercy of the Lord?

We take resolutions to be in Tirupathi on January 1st and take pride in such actions.This is resulting in Bhagawan being subjected to go on darshan for long hours without breaks.We are dictating terms to the Lord and say that we will visit at our will and the Lord be available to bless us. To attain this we are even ready to bribe for a divine darshan. It has become so bad that the Lord of Tirupathi is allowed only 30 minutes each day to relax and take a break. People somehow recollect the Lord only on the 1st of January of each year and this is a strange behaviour. When has the Lord  not been available? Does He manifest only on certain days? 

Every single moment the Lord's presence is with us and should we not utilize this always. In the past a person had thought of visiting the temple in the new year and we are all still following the practice till day. We all take pride and pleasure in torturing and tormenting the Lord. Has anyone thought about the fact that they are offering piping hot meals or the fact that the Lord has been standing for ages and that we shall offer some massage to His legs? Azhwars out of pure passion for the lord ask whether His legs ache as result of walking over to meet them in person. It would be fantastic if we can develop the same passion that the alwars had towards the Lord. We have determined that the Lord is a simple being who is present to ever satisfy our needs. We go the temple with such weird claims that the Lord bless us with a child. RadheKrisha....What bhakthi have we done to make such claims to the Lord? So let us start doing bhakthi right from today. Let us organize more satsangs, like the bhagawatham that was organized , and listen to them.

's Sathsangam through phone irrespective of one's domicile in any nook and corner of this universe and many more souls should yearn to enjoy this bliss! Since people are easily tempted to the uncivilized activities and are trapped in the web of movies, television programmes and some unpleasant magazines, more and more Sathsangams should be encouraged and attended to keep oneself engaged in the union of the Almighty, which is the only eternal truth. Just as hills are made of hard stones alone and its originality cannot be replaced, likewise Bhagawaan is the eternal truth and at a stage each one realizes this truth. Its no compulsion and even those who have disassociated will realize this truth. Such is the greatness of Bhakthi and Naamasankeerthana. Since, Naamasankeerthana is the Kali Yuga Dharma, there is no match to it. Radhekrishna!

2. Mahatmas - New Bhaktacharitras Each Month

India is the holy land with so many bhaktas (devotees). When we go through the Indian history, there must be a bhakta in every period. That is the greatness of this sacred land. Bhaktas are the role model for all the bonded souls. They enjoy their life in a perfect way. Bhaktas surrender themselves to the Lotus feet of Lord. By hearing or reading bhaktas' divine story, the bonded soul is enlightened to come out of the worldwide bondages.

Radhekrishna! Sincere chanting and listening to the great stories of devotees will surely give a peace of mind to everybody, even in this 21st century. So many people think that listening to the devotee's stories is a waste of time and there is no benefit at all. If somebody wants to realize the power of bagawan, first of all they must listen bhaktha charithram [stories of devotees]. There are so many advantages in listening to baktha charithram.

Bharath is a very special land and contained within it are sacred places and rivers. Devotees born in this sacred bharath ensure that they propagate bhakti in all corners of the country. This is the precise reason why the fragrance of bhakti can be felt all around our country.Thirumangai Azhwar was visiting all the sacred places around this country. Whilst on pilgrimage around the country he visited the sacred town of Srirangam.

"Sathya vada Dharmam Chara ".

 Vedas instruct us to speak the truth and abide by the law of dharma( righteousness / virtue). Truth will never vanish and the laws of dharma will never change. The same Vedas at a different juncture suggests not to speak the truth that has no goodness. Again at a different juncture, the Vedas quote not to speak the untruth just because it is appropriate and good. The law of dharma is very tricky and there is no hard and fast rule to decide that this is definite goodness.

Nothing can come close to Hindu dharma and the depth that is inherent in it. there are many different types of dharma- saamanya (ordinary) dharma, Vishesha (special) dharma, Abhath (in terms of crisis) dharma. Saamanya dharma means one that has to be followed by everyone. Vishesha or special dharma is dictated by place and time. Abhath dharma means certain things will be followed in times of crisis or urgency. 

To understand better, when we travel by car and bus and if we encounter the red signal then everybody should stop their vehicles. Nobody, irrespective of whether he/she is educated or illiterate, rich or poor, should cross the yellow line and this is saamanya dharma. At the same time if the president or a person in power comes then there could be exempted from observing this rule at times and this is vishesha dharma. If the ambulance is travelling then it is allowed to cross at anytime the red signal as it is carrying people who are fighting for life. This is called Aabath dharma and similarly there are many intricacies in dharma.

Hinduism alone talks about these intricacies in a very clear manner. Why is that we are discussing at length about dharma? This is because Tirumangai Azhwar is carrying out certain works for the Love of Lord Renganatha. This appears to be in contrast to samaniya dharma. We must notice one thing very carefully that not all that is being done by noble people can be applied by us in ordinary day to day life. 

Even in Bhagavatham, King Parikshit listens to Rasa Kreeda from Sukadeva and question whether it was appropriate for the Lord to play with other people's wives. Suka replies that Lord transcends everything and He does not have the same trivial thoughts and we us humans have and so it was appropriate. Nevertheless it would be a big sin if ordinary mortal try to emulate what the Lord had done. Similarly Lord Shiva drank the poision and that also can't be emulated by us. Likewise all the deeds of mahatamas are not applicable and we must select the ones that are applicable to us. If it belongs to Vishesha dharma, then ordinary humans should try to exclude it. If the Lord played Raasa Kreeda, then we have the right to do if we emulate the other deeds of the Lord like lifting Govardanagiri (mountain). 

All the confusions prevailing in the world today are as result of us selecting something that is not appropriate for us to do. Ramanuja, Shakaracharya and Madhwacharya renounced the world at a very young age but not everybody becomes an ascetic. Hence the incidents that we tend to observe in the lives of mahatmas, though appear to be in conflict with dharma, for the sole reason that the Lord approves them is treated as dharma.At the same time we should not try to mimic what they have done at any point in time and we can mimic them as well. As an example a father goes to work and makes a living and if his five year old kid tries to emulate it will not be possible to do so. We must select what is applicable. IF the father is eating on time, sleeping on time etc, those must be emulated by the kid and make it his/her habit. If he/she decides to go to work just because the father is doing so then it is treated as madness. Hence when reading or hearing about the deeds of mahatmas, we must ponder over them carefully and in a calm manner. 

Lord Renganatha

Tirumangai Azhwar had a very special devotion towards Lord Renganatha. Out of that devotion he was consulting with his counsel of ministers. The ministers suggested that In the town of Nagapatinam (in Tamilnadu) there was a Buddha temple with a big golden statue of Buddha. By utilizing the gold they decided to carry out devotional work for the Lord. To overcome evil alone Lord took the avatar of Buddha and it is substantiated by bhagavatam as well. Because of its rigidity alone Buddhism and Jainism as well could not penetrate much in this world. They concluded that emptiness is the final state of the world. As per our mahatmas, those religions that don't accept the vedas as considered as inferior or subordinates to hinduism. To realise the truth behind the statement, we must study and understand the vedas and then compare it with others to establish the superiority. This can't be done by mere arguments but a careful study alone can reveal the truth.

Tirumangai Azhwar on hearing the news about the statue became very elited. He started to travel to nagapittam with an intention of stealing the statue. On reaching nagapittam, the Azhwar realised that the statue had been errected in a very mysterious way and cant be stolen easily. Since the statue was made of gold, care was taken to ensure adequate measures were taken before it was commissioned. Tirumangai Azhwar wanted to crack the mystery behind it and steal the statue. Unless he meets the architect of the temple, the Azhwar decides that it will not be possible to steal it. The Azhwar begins to interact with the people of the town and the town people developed a respect towards him. The Azhwar said that he has a vision of building a similar Buddha temple in his town and went about enquiring about the architect. People fell for his soft words and gave him the address and the name of the island on which the architect was residing. Tirumangai Azhwars prays to Lord Renganatha and decides to travel to that island. Interestingly, he decides to extract the truth from the architect in a very subtle way. 3. Krishnam Vande Jagadhgurum - Extracts From The Holy Bhagawath Geetha


Radhekrishna.Hinduism is an ancient religion. All the things that have been spoken in Hindu religion can be applied in practical life. Although in 21st century till everyone can apply this in his or her daily life. The aim of Hindu religion is to provide total happiness to everyone at all times (or any point of time). The essence of Hinduism is told in "Bhagawad Gita". In order to realize what is said in Bhagawad Gita it is a compulsory (must) to have an unconditional faith on Bhagawad Gita. So many people have benefited in their lives because of the (by reading) shlokas of Bhagawad Gita. In Bhagawad Gita, Bhagawan Shri Krishna has told the way to lead a happy life in such an easy way that even a normal layman can easily understand. The slokas are so simple that anyone can understand and use it practically.

Gurujiamma & Guruji - Krishnam Vande Jagathgurum

  

Klesho athikatharas-thaesha-mavyakthasaktha-chethasaam
Avyakthaa he gather-dhukkam dhehaadhb-ravaapyathae.

There are yugam like Kaliyuga, Kritha Yuga, Thretha Yuga and Dwapara Yuga. After every Chatur Yugam another one starts. 71 Chatur Yugam is one Manmantram, to be ruled by one Manu. 14 such manmantrams equates to one kalpam.(Presently we are in Swethavaraka Kalpam and Vaivaswatha manmantram). One kalpam is defined as half a day and a Brahma's day plus night equates to two kalpams. Brahma's life is 100 years or about 200 kalpams and Brahma will disappear and creation begins all over again.

Like this, time changes and with time Brahma associated with that period also gets destroyed. But Lord never undergoes any change. Even during the great destruction all the jeevas (varieties of life forms) tend to take refuge in Lord's navel. During that period the living entities dont realise anything including their body or will power and is similar to what they undergoing during their sleep. Even during that time, Lord's mind is very pure and fully cognizant of the fact that all living entities have been absorbed by Him and He is resting on a banyan leaf.

 Then when the right time arrives Lord will create Brahma and allow him to do penance so that he can realise the Lord to begin the creation process by himself based on past karmas. This is required because during destruction all living entities like humans, animals, demons, birds etc take refuge in the Lord. Inorder to assign the respective souls a suitable body based on their karmas, the Lord resides inside Brahma and teaches him the nitty gritties of the creation process. This is required because Brahma itself being in the navel of the Lord does not remember the state of the living entities prior to destruction. 

Brahma can create many different forms of life like animals, humans etc but the decision of which soul receives which form rests purely with the Lord as He alone decides this match. Hence Bhagawan is very clear always and is not confused nor is illusioned by any expecations or is faced with any disappointments. Hence our gurus taught us that it is much better to use the power of the Lord to do any activity rather than relying or utilizing our limited capacity of our intellects. That is the only reason why Bhagawans wisdom alone gives happiness to everyone at any point in time.

Bhagavath Gita was recited by the Lord during the Dwapara yuga but it is for the foresaid reason it is very much applicable in Kaliyuga as well. Bhagavath gita transcends time. Bhagavath gita has been the guiding force for Adi Sankara, Ramanuja,Madhwacharya, Thukaram and their dozens of followers and to all of us and for all future being as well. Such is the greatness of Gita and such is the power of speech of the Lord and we must have full faith in Lord's power.

The Lord so beautifully explains the benefits of meditation on His form and who else can explain this other than the Lord. Many atheists question the benefit of meditating on the Lord and the answer must come from those who have experienced the benefits. Even then it is best explained by the Lord Himself. The power of the medicine is very well realised and appreciated by us when the doctor himself explains the benefits that it will providing in curing the ailments. If a person who has taken it and got cured explains the benefit, we are then stand to wonder whether the medicine will produce the same good effects on us? Similarly the Lord himself explains the benefits of meditating on Him and explains that it is very benefical to the living entities. The only way to experience this is to meditate and enjoy the benefits. 

Our minds must be set on a single Lord and a single form of the Lord. Arjuna used to mediate on Krishna who was his companion and he had no other version of the Lord in his mind. He did not meditate on Yasoda's Krishna, Nandagopar's Krishna, Vasudevar's Krishna, Radhika's Krishna, Kuchela's friend Krishna, Rukmani's Krishna If we begin to medidate on the form of Krishna that is dear to us then we get to see excellent results. How is that each one of us can have a personal form of the Lord? We shall seek an answer to this in next month's issue.

4. The Divine Songs - Dhivyaprabhandham

Meaning

Kulasekhara Azhwar Alvar wants to be born as a tall stone in Thirumala. He has no desire to witness the dance of the slim waisted beautiful apsara women such as Urvasi or Menaka. Instead he will consider himself fortunate if he were to be born as a mere stone in beautiful Thiruvengadam Hill, reverberating with the pleasant humming of the bees.

Explanation


Kulesekara Azhwar wanted to enjoy bhakti in different ways. He is saddened by the fact that inspite of being a human being he is unable to enjoy the Lord Srinivasa in Tirupathi. Despite being a king and blessed with world things like wealth, beauty, bravery and money, the Azhwars soul was not entirely happy. In these days people talk about settling down in life. This settling down refers to money, buying a house, a car and having a sufficient bank balance. More important than settling down is to ensure that the mercy of Lord is always there with us. The most precious thing is when the Lord takes liberty to say that we are his own kids. If we attain that state then in what ever worldly level we are, we would have eternal peace. 

King Jana and Ambreesha were able to enjoy such a blissful and wonderful life due to the mercy of the Lord alone. Kulasekara always also longs for such a life as led by the kings. His ever request to the Lord is to associate himself with the Tirupathi hills in one form or the other. Azhwar feels that if we have to live in this world then it is better to live with some association towards the sacred Tirumala hills. What a noble thought this is?

Kulashekara Azhwaar

In last pasuram we saw that the Azhwar feels that it is a blessing to be a useless tree (kambaga). In this song, the Azhwar feels that it would be such a bliss if he were to stay for ever in the hills in any form. He feels that it would be a blessing to be a little mount on one of the seven sacred hills. If he becomes a mount then then the Azhwar feels that he can stay forever.

 We are always commited to thinking that enjoying the dances of females like Ramba and Oorvasi, who have hips as thin as that of a lightning is a very happy one and this is happening even today in this planet. So enjoying such wordly things as a king and in the process allow the senses and mind to roam and in the end the atma forgets the Lord and suffers. Hence the Azhwar rejects such things. Being a king he is constanly exposed to such dances under one pretext or the other.

We enjoy one thing or the other and in the end forget to enjoy the Lord. Seeing the Lord in every activity is great and just meditating on the Lord is even greater. Hence the Azhwar feels that he is happy to be a mount in the sacred Tirupathi hills. The Azhwar further says that even the bees in the sacred hills by means of their constant humming are trying to reach out to the Lord of Tirupathi. 

Srimad Bhagavatham when Uddhavar arrived, the gopikas sing Brahmara Geetham. the gopis indicate to Uddavar by telling the bees to not to talk in praise of Krishna. We tend to enjoy things and perceive it depending on the state that we are in. Hence the Azhwars wishes to be a mount in the sacred hills where the bees reside humming the name of the Lord. 

If we observe closely we figure out that even today many people meditate on the hills. It is said that Hanuman's (Anjaneya;'s) mother Anjana devi is said to have meditated in the hills. Even today you will find people doing meditation in total secrecy. They will come and worship the Lord and disappear and nobody knows where they came from or where they stay. They would be in total bliss sitting somewhere in one of the seven hills. Siddhas and ascetics would come and enjoy the Lord when people are not around and this need not be in their human forms. How can you observe these things? It is only after reaching the end state of bhakthi that one can realise these wonderous happenings. There are millions who enjoy the Lord of the seven hills and hence the Azhwar wishes to be a little mount that can't be separated from the sacred hills. 

Seven Hills of Tirupati

Being a mount itself is a big blessing if that happens to be in Tirumala and the Lord who is in the adjacent hills can be enjoyed as well. In addition to this, the mount will be blessed by the feet of devotees who visit and as well provide shelter to the yogis who reside there as trees. There are others yogis who are roaming as bees and birds and it would be a big blessing to be a mount that serves as a resting place for all of them. Hence the Azhwars wishes to be a mount and affirms that there is nothing on par as compared to the seven sacred hills. The greatness comes not from the height or the square kilometers that the hills cover but by its sanctity.

The Azhwar therefore indicates that it would be eternal bliss to be a mount peak on the Tirupathi hills and seeks the Lord's blessings for achieving it. Everyone should to do bhakthi like this and it is very possible to do. If you want to experience the bliss of being a mount pray sincerely to the Lord and do namajapam to observe the results. At least in our dreams, let us have the blessing of being a mount and let the Lord stand on us to kill our ego. Let bhakthi, jnana and vairagya rule us.

Those were the beginning days of my spiritual journey (though i didn't know it at that time); i was blessed enough to have had the opportunity to spend lot of time in Guruji Amma's home, learning so many things, watching Guruji Amma cooking and doing other household chores. Those were the beautiful days that even now make me yearn to have it once again. I used to go there after my kids left for school and go back home only in the evening when they would come back. 

Wow.....a million and one things to learn....may be this life is not enough to learn and enjoy her love and kindness. I used to ask her many doubts about our Gods and Goddesses and about our religion and rituals.She used to listen patiently and with very kind and soft voice would say "naraiya naamajapam pannu". 

The way she teaches how to buy the vegetables and other things, what not to mention. Will be very easy to learn and remember and i used get answers to my doubts regarding our religion and spiritualism. I still talk about many things like my life and some times about things happening around me in my family and society with great anguish and most of the time with lot of confusion. She will listen patiently and again and again will tell me to do lot of namajapam. Sometimes i would get disappointed and sometimes I feel for myself I know it. Sometimes she will ask a single question like - why it happened like that? - what you got from that? - why he did that? etc etc. according to the situation which makes us to think about that.

What to say about this great teacher, she even answers questions from inside even when you are thousands of miles away. Whenever I sing the lines from Guruji Ammas Bhajans, I get doubts and again and again i get the question why Amma wrote like that. One of like those lines are - ' Radhaiyin kuralinai ketkaamal Kannan, yashodai baalan gokulam sendraan'. How can Krishna go away like that? Something must be there. One morning when I was in Kampala, Uganda I got the answer for that line and immediately with great excitement I shared it with my husband and kids. After sometime i opened the new Vedharahasyam, what a surprise, the answer i got was in that. So Amma was kind enough to pass on those lines from Chennai to Kampala. 

I got one more great experience when I was with GurujiAmma in the beginning when i got the great opportunity to spend lot of time with her. One day we went with Guruji Amma to buy a Chain for her. We all were excited and we felt very happy that she is taking us with her. She purchased a coral necklace. Though i had many things going in my mind i didn't open my mouth. When She asked how the necklace was, I kept quiet, because i had a feeling that GurujiAmma can have something more grander than that. We came home home and showed it to GurujiAppa, still I had the same feeling it is not grand enough for my GurujiAmma. 

Then Amma wore it!! What a surprise that necklace was looking so great and very grand and even today i cannot forget how i stood there spell bound. I remembered Guruji saying in his Upanyasam that the ornaments were shining more beautiful after Bhagavan Sri Krishna wore it. This was just like that. The story did not end here. Then Amma removed and kept it in the box and when i looked it, it was still shining beautifully. The same necklace ten minutes ago was looking like ordinary plain thing to my eyes, now even after looking at it again and again it was looking great! How lucky I am to have this experience!! Kodi janmangal punyam seythaalum kaana kidaikkatha kaatchigal innum yeraalam, yeraalam.

Bhagawan takes avatar in each and every yuga mainly to safeguard the bhaktas and then to destroy the rakshasaas who trouble his bhaktas. So Bhagawan comes to this bhoomi from paramapadham just for the sake of his bhaktas. Hence we come to know that bhaktas are very important to the Lord. Whenever Bhagawan comes to rescue his bhaktas, the other fellow people also reap the benefits.........Our guruji amma gives high respect to all the bhaktas. Hence our Vedhanaadham's every issue will be dedicated to one bhakta. This issue we are dedicating to one of the great disciple of Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu namely 'Nityanandaa'.

Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's friend & great disciple who was born in Ekachakra (a small village in present West Bengal) around the year 1474, in a religious Brahmin family on the thirteenth day of the month of Magh to Hadai Ojha and Padmavati.

The young disciple who was well known in his youth for his dramatic re-enactments of Lord Rama's pastimes, wherein he would generally play the part of Lakshman, Rama's younger brother along with the other boys of Ekachakra.

The great devotee who was attacked by Jagai and Madhai, two irreverent drunk brothers, and who saved them from the wrath of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and transformed them to become Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's disciples.

The saint who is considered an avatar of Balarama, travelled extensively to Vaidyanatha, Gaya, Kasi, Prayaga, Hastinapura, Dvaraka, Siddhapura, Siva-kanchi, Vishnu-kanchi, Kuruksetra, Pravasa, Naimisaranya, Ayodhya, Haridvara, Godavari, Mathura, and Brindavana spreading the word of bhakthi.

The Saint whose urge to locate Krishna was so intense that he danced and sang in ecstacy until the vision to him arouse that Krishna has descended in the form of Lord Chaitanya.

The saint, along with Haridasa Thakura, was instructed by Lord Chaitanya himself to serve as His door-to-door preachers, spreading the message of love of God to every home in Navadvipa.

The Saint who at later stages of his life gave up his sanyasa on Chaitanya's request and married Jahnava Devi and her younger sister Vasudha and are considered to be incarnations of Revati Devi and Varuni Devi respectively, who were the wives of Lord Balarama.

Radhekrishna. This margazhi month is very special as by the grace of Poojyashree Shee Amma, our satsangam came up with one more special website exclusively on Thiruppavai from 15th December 2006. It contains Tiruppavai paasurams in English and Tamil along with meaning and a very unique feature - Satsangam by Mahaan Brahmashree  Gopalavallidasan's satsangam on each paasuram. Sathsangam Programmes held at various places last month

 

 

 


Mahan Brahma Shri Gopalavallidasar returned from Trivandrum to Chennai on December 6th. All the Trivandrum devotees were overjoyed with Mahan Brahma Shri Gopalavallidasar's sathsangam.

 

From 16th to 21st December 2006 Guruji did sathsangam on Thiruppavai at a devotees place in Chrompet. This was the first time Guruji finished Thiruppavai in six days. All the Chennai devotees were delighted and were completely engrossed in guruji's sathsangam.

 

From 2nd to 29th decmber 2006 Guruji did sapthaham at a devotees' residence. The devotees were very much eager to hear Guruji's sathsangam and were very elated! To view the images of guruji doing sapthaham wait till Krishnavedham's issue.

 

Radhekrishna. Guruji left for Mumbai on 30th December 06. 30th December being `Vaikunda Ekadhasi`, Guruji did sathsangam at Shiv Mandir, Dombivli (E). Guruji did bhajans, chanting and sathsangam from 10.30 pm to 4.am. It was fabulous. Nobody realized how time passed by. By Gurujiamma's grace everyone felt very fresh and enthusiastic.

 On 31st December 06 Guruji did sathsangam at a devotees' residence from 10.30pm to 12 midnight. Everyone felt very fortunate to have started their new year while being with Guruji and chanting. Radhekrishna.
