RadheKrishna. If we follow the path shown by the Lord then He would ensure that there is no grief and take care of our lives. If parents are holding on to a child and walking, then the child would walk without any fear with the thought that the parents would take care of everything. If there is an approaching car or a bull then parents would ensure that they deviate the child from the dangerous path. This is exactly what Lord is doing for us. But we never become one with God mentally. There is no big importance to body in this union. Hence we should chant Krishna Krishna Krishna continuously.

Let us say if we are searching for a match then we should begin by praying to Krishna that a good (at heart) partner should turn up by His grace. We could have indirectly praised other religions without our knowledge and that could have got imparted to the child. Due to this tendency alone children are getting attracted to a variety of things. We often praise tolerance of other religions, the minimal restrictions they imposes on customs and behaviours. We question the religious marks on our foreheads and ask what has this to do with bhakthi? Like a bit of coffee turning the colour of milk, these are corrupting our children's minds. Is anyone guiding our children on the reasons why Hindu religious customs have been formulated by our elders?

In olden days ,in a joint family , the grandmother or the aunt would keep the child by her bed and tell the significance of our religion. Whatever customs we follow is as a result of the resultant knowledge imparted to them. But these days we don't have the time to even speak to our children then how is that we are going to impart the knowledge of customs and duties to be performed by the child? The bottom line is that if the father is like king Dasharatha then automatically the child will turn out to be Lord Rama.

Anniversary Special Bonanza

Let us examine what is happiness. A person who has a huge mansion is not happy. So is a person who is highly qualified in education. Well is a Minister happy? The answer is no. These are the true facts of life. But there is an unlimited happiness that the Lord has given us. If we begin to do namajapam continuously then there would be eternal happiness in our hearts. Like the bees humming when enjoying the nectar in the flowers we ourselves will experience this happiness hum in us and this is what I call true happiness. We should enjoy such eternal bliss and the only way to achieve this is namajapam. If we chant and leave everything to God as if we are His own property then He would ensure that we are taken care of very well. Have the plans that people make ever worked out perfectly? The mind constantly is thinking of accumulating wealth. People start looking out for second, third house etc but if illness strikes they become distressed. By the way, how much of space is required to actually lie down and take rest? Today people speak about demand. What is this demand? Happiness itself has become a much demanded thing! So real eternal bliss has to enjoyed at heart and let us do namajapam and enjoy unlimited happiness.

Translation in English - Coming Up shortly

It is fortunate to listen and be blessed to Guruji Amma
's Sathsangam through phone irrespective of one's domicile in any nook and corner of this universe and many more souls should yearn to enjoy this bliss! Since people are easily tempted to the uncivilized activities and are trapped in the web of movies, television programmes and some unpleasant magazines, more and more Sathsangams should be encouraged and attended to keep oneself engaged in the union of the Almighty, which is the only eternal truth. Just as hills are made of hard stones alone and its originality cannot be replaced, likewise Bhagawaan is the eternal truth and at a stage each one realizes this truth. Its no compulsion and even those who have disassociated will realize this truth. Such is the greatness of Bhakthi and Naamasankeerthana. Since, Naamasankeerthana is the Kali Yuga Dharma, there is no match to it. Radhekrishna!

2. Mahatmas - New Bhaktacharitras Each Month

India is the holy land with so many bhaktas (devotees). When we go through the Indian history, there must be a bhakta in every period. That is the greatness of this sacred land. Bhaktas are the role model for all the bonded souls. They enjoy their life in a perfect way. Bhaktas surrender themselves to the Lotus feet of Lord. By hearing or reading bhaktas' divine story, the bonded soul is enlightened to come out of the worldwide bondages.

Radhekrishna! Sincere chanting and listening to the great stories of devotees will surely give a peace of mind to everybody, even in this 21st century. So many people think that listening to the devotee's stories is a waste of time and there is no benefit at all. If somebody wants to realize the power of bagawan, first of all they must listen bhaktha charithram [stories of devotees]. There are so many advantages in listening to baktha charithram.

Bharath is a very special land and contained within it are sacred places and rivers. Devotees born in this sacred Bharath ensure that they propagate bhakti in all corners of the country. This is the precise reason why the fragrance of bhakti can be felt all around our country. Thirumangai Azhwar was visiting all the sacred places around this country. Whilst on pilgrimage around the country he visited the sacred town of Srirangam.

"vimaanam praNavaakaaram vEdhaSrungam mahaadhbhutham
SrirangaSaayee bhagavaan praNavaarththa prakaasaka:"

RadheKrishna

Parakalan after passing on the Buddha statue decides to come out of the hole but he was unable to do so. His torso was not coming through the hole. The Azhwar questions his cousin as to why he is not able to get through the hole. Prakalan replied that the thought of having done something, however small for Lord Ranganathar has caused his body to swell in joy. Hence the torso was not coming through the same hole that he used it to pass through. Is this all possible ? Yes very much possible and if the heart is filled with joy the body enjoys a very good health even if one were to go without food.

Divine child Dhruv did a strong penance. First month he had fruits every 3rd day. Next month he ate dried grass and leaves every 6th day. In the third month he drank water every 9th day. Fourth month he breathed air once in 12 days and in the fifth month he stopped everything. But his body stayed intact despite all this penance. Even today we can observe that devotees observe complete fast during the day of Ekadeshi. The night before ekadeshi they would not have anything and proceed on to fast (even without drinking water) the whole of the ekadeshi day and do namajapam throughout the night. The following day they will pray to the Lord and complete the fast. If we notice such devotees they will be very strong during those fasting days. The strength comes from the power of namajapam.

Let us assume if someone has to lose some money or to face humiliation then the body automatically loses its strength. On the other hand if all these miseries vanish then the body automatically regains its strength and this can be observed in day to day life as well. The bottom line is that if we are happy at heart then the body will regain its strength.

Tirumangai Azhwar

Parakalan's body swelled in joy as he was able to contribute to the divine work that the Azhwar is planning for Lord Ranganatha. Time was passing very quicky and the Azhwar and his cousin could not figure a way to get out safely. The Azhwar urges him to come out quickly. Parkalan replies that his body is continuously swelling with joy and he will not be able to come out of the exit. Then he came upon an idea and said to the Azhwar to proceed with the statue and in the process behead him as well. The Azhwar and others were stunned on hearing this.

Parakalan said that if they leave him behind , the town will find out about the source and they will in turn catch the Azhwar and his accomplices. This would hamper the work that was to be undertaken for the Lord. Parakalan says that it is best to behead him while he is in joy and he is assured of freedom from the cycle of births and deaths (Moksha). Parakalan proclaims that he was blessed to have been with the Azhwar and his devotees and that he would consider that a very fortunate experience. The fact is that even a second in the presence of great devotees will relieve us from all our miseries.

Suppose we are travelling in a train and we begin to smell jasmine, a rose or a mango. We might enquire the next seat passenger about this smell if we are unable to find out the source. The passenger would say that there is a garden near by and that is causing the nice fragrance around this place. Even if such a far off garden can produce a sweet smell that lingers in our hearts for ever, the association of ourselves with great devotees is considered even far superior. In Bhagawatham as well, Nimi Chakravarthy says that the true wealth for ordinary people is the association of themselves with Lord's devotees even if the association lasts for just a second. Parakalan quotes all this and requests Azhwar that having been associated with him this long itself is a blessing and hence that he will not feel sad or feel the pain of his head being chopped off. Not everybody can get such a blessed death.

We often say that some people were fortunate that they passed away in sleep. This is a big mistake to make such an assumption. The fact is that we were asleep when the person met his/her death. A soul without the knowledge of its body cant separate itself and leave. The soul will be greeted by messenger of Yama, Indra or Lord Vishnu according to the karma it has performed. Bagawatham also states that Ajamilan had the vision of Yama in his death bed and similarly messengers of the Lord came to greet Dhruva to take him to Dhurvaloka. So also Dhundukari ( a ghost) was greeted by messengers of Vishnu on completely hearing Bhagawatham with total concentration. Hence let us not decide that a person has passed off peacefully in sleep. It is just that we were asleep when the person had died.

If we read Garuda Purana then this is very well established that the soul will leave and the body will surely realise that.

Parakalan is all prepared to leave his body. In this world everybody likes his/her life followed by their body. The attachment to the body is too great and nobody is prepared to give it up. People like people because the bodies get along well and they derive pleasure. Parakalan requests the Azhwar to chop and throw away the head and that it need not be taken along. Time was ticking along and Azhwar and his accomplices decide that they are running out of options. If they all get caught then the work for Lord Ranganatha would come to a stand still. Parakalan meditates on the Lord and the Azhwar cuts off his head and proceeds with the statue.

Tirumangai Azhwar is prepared to even lose people for the sake of undertaking work and serving Lord Ranganatha. It is equally fortunate that those who followed the Azhwar's footsteps were in an equal state of extreme devotion towards the Lord. This is because sincere devotees of the Lord would try to undertake a task but the people around him would be a barrier. Does the Azhwar need to perform the undertaken task with so much difficulties and struggles. We can definitely succeed if we have the same determination and fight against all odds. In Bhagawath Gita also Krishna says to Arjuna to fight with Him in his mind. That shall ensure that the Karmic effects of the war will not affect him. Tirumangai Azhwar does all these activities with Lord Ranganatha in his mind and hence these are not considered to be offensive acts.

To be continued.... RadheKrishna

3. Krishnam Vande Jagadhgurum - Extracts From The Holy Bhagawath Geetha

Radhekrishna.Hinduism is an ancient religion. All the things that have been spoken in Hindu religion can be applied in practical life. Although in 21st century till everyone can apply this in his or her daily life. The aim of Hindu religion is to provide total happiness to everyone at all times (or any point of time). The essence of Hinduism is told in "Bhagawad Gita". In order to realize what is said in Bhagawad Gita it is a compulsory (must) to have an unconditional faith on Bhagawad Gita. So many people have benefited in their lives because of the (by reading) shlokas of Bhagawad Gita. In Bhagawad Gita, Bhagawan Shri Krishna has told the way to lead a happy life in such an easy way that even a normal layman can easily understand. The slokas are so simple that anyone can understand and use it practically.

Gurujiamma & Guruji - Krishnam Vande Jagathgurum

Bhagawad Gita gives us the necessary strength to emerge victorious in life. Whenever bad thoughts come to haunt us bhagawad Gita alone can dispel those thoughts. Whenever there is confusion and we are unable to take any concrete decision, Gita will provide the perfect solution that is appropriate for that problem. There is no problem in life that does not have a defined solution. It is just that the desires of the mind alone prevent us from taking the appropriate solution. It was in a confused scenario that Arjuna listened to Gita from Lord Krishna. The gift of Kaliyuga is bagawath Gita. No other yug, thretha or dwapara, had this blessing of having the gift of Gita.

RadheKrisha.. Bhagawad gita is the strength giving substance that enables the nerves and the brain to function as they should. It is a true fact that those who have recited Gita with all sincerity have attained a very high state in life
Moreover most other religious books have their foundations on the teachings of gita. All that is said in Gita are plain facts and truths. There is a real story on the power of Gita.

RadheKrishna.. There was a poor brahmin living with his family in a town and was trying to make ends meet. Despite his poverty he used to recite gita everyday without fail. This seemed to continue for years. One day the Brahmin's wife criticized him that years of Gita has not yielded the desired results and Lord Krishna has turned a deaf ears to his prayers. Hence, in anger, she urged the brahmin to give up reciting gita and go to the next town and beg for food. The brahmin's mindset changed and he decided to listen to his wife's advice.

RadheKrishna.. This is how human mind deceives all of us. Hence whenever someone advices something, we should analyze and search for the truth in it. The brahmin lost his faith in Gita and sweared at it as well. He applied charcoal to the book, abandoned it and proceeded to the next town to beg for food. No sooner did the brahmin left the house did someone arrive and fill the house with a list of household things that would be needed to last for a number of years. When the brahmin returned home in the evening, the wife explained to him all that happened in his absence. The brahmin enquired his wife on the whereabouts of the person who had provided all the stock. He also enquired his wife to provide a brief description of his physical appearance. His wife replied that the person was called Parthasarathy coming from Tiruvellikeni (Triplicane). His eyes, palms and feet were red in colour. He had a turban on his head and had a whip on his hand. But the most distinguishing mark was that his lips were smeared with charcoal.

The brahmin rushes and locates the Gita. He could not find the charcoal marks that he had smeared it before he abandoned it.
The brahmin cries and repents for his fault and decides to live by the teachings of Gita. The marks were seen on Lord Parthasarathy and hence the Lord and his teachings are one and the same. It is a proven truth that those who live by the teachings of Gita will enjoy all the bliss in this world.

Anyone will be able to do all his/her karma for the Lord. Lord Krishna also instructs Arjuna to do all karma for Him. A doubt arises in Arjuna's mind whether it is practical for anyone to do Karma on behalf of the Lord under all circumstances. At times, we are enjoying food or in anger are swearing at people without the thought of the Lord. If we observe in those circumstances, we still are able to hum a cine song despite enjoying a nice dinner but it just that we are unable to think about Him. For beginners it is very difficult to start doing karma for the Lord under those circumstances. The same doubts arise in the mind of Arjuna as well and was about to ask Krishna. Since the Lord is present inside everyone's heart, He decides to dispel Arjuna's doubts and proceeds with instructing the next sloka. It is even simpler than the above proposed method and let us see that in next issue on what the Lord has to say.

RadheKrishna.

(PerumaaL Thirumozhi - 685/1000/4000}

Meaning

Kulasekara Azhwar wishes to be a step in the sanctum sanatorium of the Lord Balaji and from where he wishes to enjoy the beauty of the lips of Lord's coral like rosy lips.

Explanation

RadheKrishna RadheKrishna..

Kulasekara Azhwar prays thus
Oh Lord , consort of Sri (Lakshmi), who dispels the grief resulting from leading this life, who showers His limitless grace on His devotees, Lord of Seven hills, let me be a step in the temple that is being used by devotees and divine ladies like Ramba and stay as a step enjoying your rosy lips.
Seven Hills of Tirupati

Alwar has lost himself in the grace of Lord Balaji. Like how ordinary people lose themselves in sleep, in anger, in bodily union, Kulasekara Azhwar loses himself in the divine grace of the Lord. The real bliss lies in everyone losing his/herself in the grace of the Lord. If we derive so much pleasure in forgetting ourselves in sleep, then there is much more bliss to derive if we lose ourselves to Lord and there can't be any doubts about this. The Lord of seven hills is such that he has his consort Godess Lakshmi adoring His chest and is therefore called 'Sriyapathy'. Lord Srinivasa has a speciality and not much people know about this. In almost all temples the Lord will be adorned with a necklace that denotes Godess Lakshmi residing in His chest. But Lord of seven hills, Srinivasa, is such that Godess Lakshmi is actually situated on His chest. Even today Lord Srinivasa be adorned with sandal paste on his chest and then when dried gets distributed to a few lucky devotees.
Lord Balaji....Govinda Govinda!!
The Lord is so great that by the mere sight of Him destroys all our past karmas. Our karmas are comparable to the countless bushes that are abundant in forest areas. This past karma alone results in bondage in our lives and creates confusions in our minds. The past karmas have to be got rid of if the bondage is to be broken and that alone will free the soul. The Lord of Tirupathi alone can give that freedom to our souls. At the same time, the Lord's power is limitless and can't be confined to specified boundaries. He has a special soft corner for His devotees. Even if Goddess Lakshmi points mistakes as well, the Lord will ignore them for His devotees and such is His divine love. He has a special bias towards his devotees. There is a proverb that says that the prince should be punished 'lightly'. That is if a prince commits a crime then the king will try to lighten the punishment as much as possible. Similarly the Lord of Tirupathi does not look back on the past karmas of His devotees and forgets them as well. Hence the Azhwar describes the Lord as supreme showering limitless love for His devotees.

The word Venkatam itself in a way will destroy our past sins. Today we complain that there is a huge rush in Tirupathi and we have to wait in 'cages' for hours or days together. From time immemorial there has been a crowd of devotees and celestial gods (devas). Swami Periya Vachan pillan says devotees come to worship for the sake of the Lord and devas come to worship the Lord to get their personal things done. Likewise the celestial ladies and angels although they are dancing and enjoying in heaven are not satisfied souls either. They have very beautiful bodies and hence everybody praises them in heaven. Hence the devotees, the devas and the celestial angels and ladies are always roaming Tirupathi to get the grace of the Lord. All of them would go climb the steps, stand and pray in front of the Lord to remove their short comings and enjoy the beauty of the Lord as well. There is a huge crowd because all the 33 crore devas are there worshipping the Lord. Adding to that crowd is pure devotees of the Lord who come to woship Him. Kulasekara Azhwar describes this beautifully by starting the song with devotees. This is because the Lord wishes to see his devotees and then only the celestial gods and angels. This is because the devotees feel they are like servants to the Lord. Next in the line is celestial gods who desire something from the Lord and hence have come to worship him. Finally celestial ladies like Ramba, Oorvasi and Menaka who are servants to the Devas are being catered to by the Lord.
Kulashekara Azhwaar
Since all of them are standing on the steps in front of the Lord and worshipping Him, the Azhwar prays that he become one such step in Tirupathi. On hearing the azhwar's wish the Lord smiles and asks that what is that the Azhwar will achieve by being a step? The Azhwar retorts that he will enjoy the beauty of the lips of His rosy lips. Alwar feels if he becomes a bird or a tree then he can stay in Tirupati but cant get too close to the Lord. But if the Azhwar becomes a step then nobody is going to chase him saying 'Jarakanti'! The step cant be removed even if the temple doors are closed. The Azhwar can then enjoy the Lord peacefully. Hence the Azhwar feels that he should be a step in the sanctum sanctorium of the Lord and there is no bliss that equals to this one. In fact the Azhwar enjoys the Lord's lips again and again. The Lord's lips are so beautiful that it has been described by Andal, Periazhwar and others. Even the gopis' out of jealousy felt that they should break the flute of the Lord which enjoys His lips. It is the same lips that said Gita and declared "Maam ekam Saranam Vraja". It is the same lips that pronounced Arjuna and Kounteya. It is the same lips that plays the magical flute. It is that lips that declared that the devotees who fall at His feet shall be saved. It is the same lips that stole and ate butter. It is the same lips that speaks sweetly to His devotees. It is the same lips that blows the conch. It is the same lips that is ready to even say false things to protect His devotees. Being a step also does not result in bondage as nobody is going to notice it anyway. Hence the Azhwar firmly concludes that it is sufficient to enjoy the sacred lips of the Lord. It is as a result of this song that in temples the step closet to the Lord is called 'Kulasekara Step'.

Hence we can do bhakthi in whatever state we are in. Kulasekara Azhwar keeps insisting this and so am I. But the joy lies whenever you truly experience this yourself.

RadheKrishna.

Sathsangam Programmes held at various places last month

Poojyashree Shree Ammavin thiruvadigale saranam saranam saranam

Radhekrishna. Gurujiís sapthaham took place in a very grand manner in Mumbai. All the devotees enjoyed a lot. The sathsangam was just fabulous. From 5 year child to 70 yr old aged person everyone could understand the sathsangam. All the facts said by Guruji were so interesting that nobody wanted to miss even a single second of sathsangam! Guruji ended the sapthaham with Rukmini Kalyanam.

Guruji left to Chennai on March 17th. On March 17th Guruji left for Thuthukudy.Mr. Subramaniam and Mrs. Sudha Subramaniam had made very good arrangements for Gurujiís stay.

They arranged Gurujiís sathsangam in a temple. The sathsangam was about Rama Bhaktha Vijayam. They asked the local TV people for a coverage which they agreed, and also gave publicity of the programme through TV itself. Guruji spoke on various Rama bhakthas at the Vaikuntanathar temple at Melur. The daily sathsangam was being telecast the next day itself by the local net work. Daily at the place where He stayed there was sathsangam in the mornings too at 7. am and 10-30 am which was attended by a close-knit crowd. They also accompanied Guruji to Thirukurungudee.

Guruji seems to have started a renaissance there. The Thuthukudy devotees enjoyed Gurujiís sathsangam a lot! They had never heard such sathsangam before. They were just stunned after hearing from Guruji. They were so happy that they really didnít know how to express it! Guruji did sathsangam on Ramajananam on Rama Navami. They were completely engrossed in His sathsangam and said that they had never heard such a sathsangam. Guruji did sathsangam on Bagavath Geethai too. They were speechless after hearing Gurujiís sathsangam. Guruji did Seetha Kalyanam. Generally it takes place inside the temple. But on that day Guruji did the Kalyanam in the ground. There was immense crowd.

Guruji started on March 30th morning. All of them were very upset and requested Guruji for 10 more days. They didnít want Guruji to leave. They asked Guruji to get settled in Thuthukudy itself. Gurujiís next Thuthukudy programmes are fixed now itself. The devotees are waiting for the next arrival of Guruji.

This is the magic of our Guruji. Guruji is leaving for Vrindavan on April first week.

Make a call and get blessed on April 7th from Guruji Appa on His birth date. Call at this number: - 044-22237769
